Bio:
I was diagnosed with Tourette Syndrome at the age of seven. My family
and I were patients of Dr. David E. Comings M.D. during his production
of the book "Tourette Syndrome and Human Behavior". I was
a guest in one of the first educational and promotional films about
Tourette Syndrome - “Stop It, I Can’t” by the Tourette
Syndrome Association (TSA). I have some informal education in advanced
nutrition and Tourette Syndrome neurology. I also have some formal
education in unrelated fields. I am the father of my two sons Kameron
and Micah and a husband to my wife Jessica.
I could write
a small essay about all the reasons why we chose to build this site
amongst all the other online resources. However, most of the composition
would be personal and revolve around me and not you, which leads me
to the most important part of this project; you.
It’s important
that you know what Tourette Syndrome means to you and what it may
mean to others. My goal is for you to have a better understanding
of Tourette Syndrome so that you can apply the information to help
you understand either to yourself, your family, your friends, those
you don’t know and anyone else.
It would have
been nice to have some of these resources when I was a child and no
one really understood me or my family that share in the disorder.
I enjoy knowing it will be here for my children and yours.
"Having
Tourettes is kind of like a riddle.
Tourette Syndrome can be tough to understand and solve, however like
a riddle, Tourette Syndrome can be quite easy to accept once you understand
it." - Paul Marshall

Bio:
A graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, Catherine brings her
pre-med education to her contributions to Tourettes-Disorder.com.
Look for her insights on innovative TS therapies such as the ones
with which she has first-hand experience:
Catherine
was the first reported case of Deep Brain Stimulation for Tourette
Syndrome in North America. The Discovery Channel is currently preparing
a 4-minute segment in one of their documentaries about her situation
and progress. Since the implants (December 2002), her tics have improved
by about 30%.
Catherine
is also a big fan of two "alternative" approaches to TS:
nutritional supplementation (esp in relation to amino acid imbalances),
and detoxing for allergies (esp delayed reactions, IgG, to foods).
She has found that both of these approaches help her to stabilize
her Tourette Syndrome.

Bio:
Caroline was diagnosed with Tourette syndrome at age 13 after two
years of bouncing from doctor to doctor. This lag in diagnosis time
has spurred her on to help others get information and support quickly.
She moderates her own site Tourette syndrome 101 and is honoured to
help in creating an authoritative support site.
Caroline
has a Bachelor of Science with major in Genetics, a husband and a
cat. They reside in Australia which is why if she responds to you,
some of her spelling may seem strange!
