Tourette Syndrome Medical Doctors

A Dr.'s quote on his Tourette Syndrome patients: "Children (patients) with neuropsychiatric disorders are not defined by a diagnosis of a disease or disability. Rather, they come with interfering symptoms that they don't understand. If I can help them put this complex behavior into a positive or functional or successful mode, they not only do well, but they are among the most delightful, interesting and challenging individuals that I learn from on a daily basis." - Dr. Lawrence W. Brown

Tourette Syndrome DoctorsAny medical doctor (M.D.) knowledgeable about Tourette Syndrome can diagnose the disorder. This includes paediatricians, psychiatrists, neurologist, geneticists, etc. Non-physicians can also suggest the Tourette diagnosis including psychologists and mental health therapists and even teachers, but only medical doctors can prescribe medications and most insurance companies require an "official" diagnosis" by a medical doctor. Also many doctors and clinicians have multiple certifications and some have pioneered new treatment approaches.

If you want to find a medical doctor who specializes in Tourette Syndrome - to confirm a diagnosis, and or to advise you of available treatment options,The Tourette Syndrome Association (TSA) keeps an updated list of medical doctors that treat Tourette’s in most locations. They also have lists of psychologists, social workers, educators and advocates.

The Tourette Syndrome Association will mail you a list of medical doctors in your area at no charge.

If you are in a country outside of the United States, the Tourette Syndrome Association also has a list of international contacts that can help you find medical doctors in your country and location as well.
